KINDKNOW - Kindergarten Knowledge Centre for Systemic Research on Diversity and Sustainable Futures

The centre aligns itself with the ideas in the United Nations’ Frameworks for Education for Sustainable Development and Futures, the article 12 in the UN Convention on the rights of the child, the Norwegian kindergarten act and curriculum, known as the Framework Plan (FWP), and will be closely linked to kindergarten teacher education (KTE) and the master and PhD program profiles at HVL, UiT and UiS. EfD and ESF provide skills and knowledge necessary for citizens to make informed choices about how to manage their futures in the changing demographic and climatic environment of Norway and so draw on ideas from ‘bildung’. The centre will be lead by Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) in collaboration with University in Tromsø, the Artic University of Norway (UiT) and the University of Stavanger (UiS). KINDKNOW provide opportunities for high-level, interdisciplinary research with kindergartens, as its core values include equity and social justice. As multidimensional concepts, EfD and ESF include epistemological, methodological and political dimensions and embrace cultural diversity, protection, heritage and agency for change (Elliot, 2016). Therefore, a requirement in the research of the centre will be to use and develop participatory research methodologies in alignment with these core values.
