Beskrivelse

The group was started by Associate professor Oddrun Marie Hovde Bråten, NTNU, with support from professor Tove Steen-Olsen (pedagogy/ action research). Professors Robert Jackson (Univ. of Warwick and Stockholm) and Geir Skeie (Univ. of Stockholm and Stavanger) were important external supporters. The primary aim of the group was to develop teaching of religions and worldviews in an intercultural context, in practice. A background was a project that several of the group’s members were a part of in mapping and analysing of the practicing of the Norwegian school subject RLE through a survey and twelve case studies. Here we saw students in schools formulating wishes for teaching that is more engaging and relevant for them. In the project Developing RE through community of practice this is taken together with recommendations from the Council of Europe, called Signposts, written by professor Robert Jackson. This was regarding the teaching of religions and non-religious worldviews as part of intercultural education. "Signposts" is a research-based tool for developing the teaching of religion, and in our project we wanted to explore the potential for developments in RE in school and teacher education. During the project professor Robert Jackson recived a honorary doctorate, and thus in April 2017 became the first honorary doctor at the new Institute of Education of NTNU. This group was developed into a new research group which works with a broader scope towards developing teaching of religion and worldviews both in school and teacher education. This is called NTNU RE Research group.
