Beskrivelse

The research group focuses on religion in South Asia in its diversity and long-term developments. The group has worked and published on different religions including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Zoroastrianism. Research covers both historical developments and the contemporary situation. Accordingly, we work with a combination of text-based and ethnographic approaches. The group has an emphasis on practices, spaces, movements, and transformations. Interdisciplinary activities are indispensible, but these occur beyond the University of Bergen, which lacks disciplines such as Indology and fields such as South Asian history.
