Studies of European politics have a long tradition at the Department of Comparative Politics. The European Politics research group carries on this tradition with a focus on several aspects of European politics - conditions for democracy in Europe both within the context of European integration and political development in Eastern Europe, Russia and the Balkans, and within recent challenges to democracy such as terrorism, immigration and asylum policy, identity and political communication across the borders. Classical themes such as political systems, parties and party systems, electoral systems and processes, national and international organisations and other relevant participants in politics are also studied in this group.
