Research is focusing on the fact that the many elderly people of the future will have more of their own teeth intact and that they will make greater demands than today's elderly population with respect to keeping their teeth healthy. This may imply new techniques/materials and preservation strategies. In 2003-2005, we were awarded NOK 1.380.000 by the Foundation for Health and Rehabilitation, for the "67+ and the right to dental health" project. Heidi Wolden was appointed to work exclusively on this doctorate project. This has so far resulted in the following studies:
• Changing dental status patterns over a period of 25 years among institutionalised elderly.
• Evaluation of a new health care program in nursing homes.
• Caregivers`perceptions of electric vs manual toothbrushes for the institutionalised elderly.
• Oral care training in basic education of care professionals.
