Description

Retief Müller is leader and Kristin Fjelde Tjelle co-leader of RethinC. The research group focuses on Intercultural History of Christianity. It has a joint scholarly interest and adopts a multidisciplinary approach. RethinC works across disciplines, faculties, and institutions. It is international in its focus. It consists of researchers who take a historical approach to the fields of mission, diakonia, and church studies, with a special reference to church development, education, and health. The main goal is to encourage research on connected histories from multiple perspectives in collaboration with scholars from different parts of the world. The group also consists of members working in archival management, the Mission and Diakonia Archives (https://www.vid.no/en/historical-archive/) at VID Specialized University (https://www.vid.no/en/), and other relevant archives. RethinC aims to explore the potential of conducting research in these archives. The research group provides researchers in intercultural history of Christianity with a platform to exchange their scholarly work. Further, it endeavours to develop theoretical and methodological approaches by initiating dialogues with national and international researchers through its yearly seminars. RethinC’s members include those who are affiliated with VID Specialized University and colleagues from other national and international higher education institutions and archives, with the purpose of developing research projects based on historical archives. Several of our members are engaged in one of VID’s excellence in research projects ‘Connected Histories - Contested Values World Lutheranism and Decolonisation: Processes of Transloyalties, 1919-1970 (CHCV)’ (https://www.vid.no/forskning/vids-fremragende-forskningsmiljoer/connected-histories-contested-values/), which was originated during RethinC’s discussions.
